April Kaynor presents
A Bauhaus-rooted modern on 4 secluded acres, at the top of New Canaan's northernmost ridge.
Original mahogany windows and doors
Built in 1971 by the company co-founded by William Berkes, a Walter Gropius disciple from Harvard, this Deck House carries Bauhaus thinking into the Connecticut woods. It crowns New Canaan's northernmost ridge on four secluded acres, forest on every side. The original Danish cabinetry, cedar siding and mahogany windows remain, with a nearly new roof and HVAC and a brand new deck. And it sits minutes from town.
Wood-plank ceilings, brick walls, the original Danish cabinetry and windows full of trees. Hover to bring a view closer.
Deck House design
Built in 1971 by the company co-founded by William Berkes, a Walter Gropius disciple from Harvard, this Deck House carries Bauhaus ideas into the forest. Wood-plank ceilings ride on exposed beams, and walls of glass bring natural light, cross breezes and tree views into every room.
Danish cabinetry
The original Danish cabinetry has been beautifully preserved, wrapping the kitchen in warm wood under a plank ceiling and exposed beams. A long run of windows over the counter looks straight into the trees, and a brick wall frames the wall ovens and a wood-topped island.
Two fireplaces
The home has two large gathering areas, each with a wood-burning fireplace set in brick. Upstairs, the living room's fire rises in a full brick wall beside built-in shelving. Downstairs, a second fire warms a room lined with wood built-ins.
Plus two wood-burning fireplaces, the original Danish cabinetry and a nearly new roof and HVAC.
